Our LOVE adventures
MISOTA began with the heartfelt journey of a Cambodian couple. In 2012, Michel TAN, originally from Battambang, returned from France with his wife, Mrs. Sophie, to assist his elderly father in managing the family business in their home province. Having departed Cambodia just prior to the onset of the Khmer Rouge regime, Michel pursued his studies and career as a television transmission engineer in France. Eventually, he felt compelled to embark on another journey back to his homeland.

Having witnessed the devastation of his homeland due to war, he felt a strong desire to contribute positively to its recovery. Mrs. Sophie shared similar sentiments. They noted that during the harvest season, an abundance of local fresh fruits went unprocessed, as many villagers sought employment opportunities in nearby countries, leaving the produce to waste. Their academic and professional backgrounds do not include agriculture. Their only relevant experience stems from assisting Mr. TAN’s father in the 1970s with the cleaning and packing of fresh Pursat oranges for distribution both domestically and to neighboring countries. So, they both chose to establish MISOTA, venturing into the food processing industry, an area where many are reluctant to engage due to the inherent risks involved. The primary motivation was not profit; rather, it focused on creating employment opportunities for villagers and assisting local farmers in managing their surplus of fresh fruits each year. And that’s called LOVE.
This dedicated couple faced significant challenges during the early stages of establishing their plant in Battambang in 2017, particularly as the Covid-19 pandemic struck thereafter. Their unwavering love and commitment were crucial in navigating this difficult period. Despite the circumstances, they continued to support their employees, showing concern for their well-being in the face of potential job loss. The company was devoid of both sales and production, as the validation of its product and process remained incomplete. Until 2021, MISOTA began to gain momentum with a modest production volume and successfully obtained HACCP certification for food safety. This milestone was marked by the first shipment to Japan, which brought a renewed sense of hope and direction to the founders and their team.
